3:00pm Welcome and kick-off for Beverly’s New Year 2022 virtual event
3:00pm Abilities Dance Boston will be leading an engaging movement workshop for folks of all ages with and without disabilities. Abilities Dance Boston is an inclusive company focused on bringing accessibility into the dance world. In 2020 they received the Mass Cultural Council’s Universal Participation (UP) Award, which celebrates excellence in access and inclusion.
3:30pm Storyteller Doria Hughes will be performing a special selection of fun stories and wintry tales for Beverly’s New Year. Doria specializes in folktales from around the world and is known for her sound effects and wacky faces. She is the ReadBoston Storymobile storyteller, the in-house storyteller at Porter Square Books and the founder of AFTer Hours Adult Folktale Telling Series.
4:00pm Cornell Coley, M. Ed. will delight kids of all ages with interactive afro-latin drumming and songs. Be ready to join in with your own percussion “instruments” found at home (a plastic container filled with rice or dried beans, and anything can serve as a drum). Cornell is an in-demand arts educator with over 25 years of experience in the culture and music of Africa, Cuba, Caribbean, Brazil and the US. He has taught at many universities, is a gifted dancer and percussionist, and has performed at festivals world-wide.
