Beverly’s New Year

Beverly’s New Year 2022 fun and free virtual event will take place online from 3:00-4:30pm on Friday, December 31, 2021. It’s been the North Shore’s BEST family-friendly celebration of the New Year for 28 years! Families and children can join the Zoom celebration from the comfort of their own homes. Enjoy amazing accessible dance for all abilities, silly storytelling, and upbeat afro-latin drumming. Please join us for one, two or all three performances – choose what works best for your family.

Getting Here ( + )( - )

  • Beverly’s New Year 2022 virtual event will be on Zoom. Please pre-register online – we will be sending out the Zoom link just before the event using the email address that you signed up with. This will be a Zoom webinar format which means that you will be able to see and hear the performers, but they will not be able to see or hear you. If you have any questions, please email Heather Wolsey.
  • You can download the free Zoom app/software ahead of time so you have a better viewing experience on your device https://zoom.us/download.
  • The Beverly Public Library at 32 Essex Street has a limited number of iPads and WiFi hotspots available to borrow to help you connect to the Zoom celebration. Each must be reserved separately on or after Monday, December 13. The library will be closed on December 31. You may request them online with your library card, stop in at the library, or give the library a call at 978-921-6062. Someone will be happy to assist you!

3:00pm                Welcome and kick-off for Beverly’s New Year 2022 virtual event

3:00pm                Abilities Dance Boston will be leading an engaging movement workshop for folks of all ages with and without disabilities. Abilities Dance Boston is an inclusive company focused on bringing accessibility into the dance world. In 2020 they received the Mass Cultural Council’s Universal Participation (UP) Award, which celebrates excellence in access and inclusion.

3:30pm                Storyteller Doria Hughes will be performing a special selection of fun stories and wintry tales for Beverly’s New Year. Doria specializes in folktales from around the world and is known for her sound effects and wacky faces. She is the ReadBoston Storymobile storyteller, the in-house storyteller at Porter Square Books and the founder of AFTer Hours Adult Folktale Telling Series.

4:00pm                Cornell Coley, M. Ed. will delight kids of all ages with interactive afro-latin drumming and songs. Be ready to join in with your own percussion “instruments” found at home (a plastic container filled with rice or dried beans, and anything can serve as a drum). Cornell is an in-demand arts educator with over 25 years of experience in the culture and music of Africa, Cuba, Caribbean, Brazil and the US. He has taught at many universities, is a gifted dancer and percussionist, and has performed at festivals world-wide.
